If you choose a normal spontaneous delivery (NSD), I will guide you through every stage of labor while closely monitoring both you and your baby to ensure a safe and positive birth experience. Labor naturally progresses through three stages, and I will be with you every step of the way, explaining what to expect and helping you feel as comfortable and confident as possible.
The first stage of labor begins when your contractions start. At first, they may be mild, short, and irregular, but they will gradually become stronger, longer, and more frequent. During this time, your cervix slowly opens until it reaches 10 centimeters, allowing your baby to prepare for birth. The second stage, also known as the pushing stage, begins once your cervix is fully dilated. I will guide and support you as your baby moves through the birth canal and into your arms. The third stage of labor begins after your baby is born and ends with the delivery of the placenta. During a natural birth, I will allow your placenta to separate and be delivered naturally while ensuring that everything progresses safely.
Every labor is unique, and the length of labor varies from one mother to another. If this is your first baby, labor may last anywhere from 10 to 20 hours, although every experience is different. Many women recover surprisingly quickly after a vaginal birth and are able to move around and care for their newborn soon after delivery. Even so, I will encourage you to rest and allow your body time to heal. After your baby is born, I will continue to monitor you closely for postpartum bleeding, infection, and other potential complications while making sure your recovery is progressing well. I will also provide guidance on newborn care, support you with breastfeeding, monitor your emotional well-being, and schedule follow-up visits to ensure that both you and your baby continue to thrive.
