If you are planning to become pregnant, I encourage you to schedule a preconception counseling appointment with me at least three months before you begin trying to conceive. This visit gives us the opportunity to prepare your body for a healthy pregnancy, identify any potential risks, and develop a personalized plan that supports both your health and your future baby’s well-being. Together, we will discuss your goals, answer your questions, and take proactive steps to give you the best possible start before pregnancy.

During your consultation, I will review your family history as well as your partner’s family history to identify any inherited conditions or genetic disorders that may affect your pregnancy. I will also discuss your medical history, including any previous surgeries, chronic medical conditions, medications, allergies, and other health concerns that may require special attention before or during pregnancy. In addition, I will review your obstetric and gynecologic history, including previous pregnancies, miscarriages, menstrual history, contraception, and any history of sexually transmitted infections, as these details help me provide care that is tailored specifically to you.

Your lifestyle is another important part of preparing for pregnancy. I will talk with you about your nutrition, exercise habits, weight, sleep, stress, and the use of tobacco, alcohol, or other substances that may affect fertility or pregnancy. Together, we will identify any changes that can improve your health before conception. I will also discuss any social, environmental, behavioral, or medical factors that could influence your pregnancy and recommend appropriate vaccinations, prenatal vitamins, especially folic acid and any additional tests or screenings you may need.
