Am I a Candidate for the FETO Procedure?

If your baby is diagnosed with severe CDH, I’ll perform a comprehensive evaluation to determine whether FETO procedure is the right option for you. This evaluation includes a detailed ultrasound, a fetal MRI to assess your baby’s lungs and diaphragm, and a fetal echocardiogram to carefully evaluate your baby’s heart. I’ll also arrange for you to meet with members of our multidisciplinary team, including our nurse, a social worker, and a genetic counselor, so you receive not only expert medical care but also the emotional and practical support you may need throughout your pregnancy.

Once all of your evaluations are complete, I’ll meet with you together with our pediatric surgeon, and neonatologist to review your baby’s condition in detail. We’ll explain whether FETO is an appropriate treatment for you, discuss the potential benefits and risks for both you and your baby, and review the expected outcomes based on the severity of your baby’s CDH. I’ll also help you understand how this diagnosis may affect the rest of your pregnancy, what specialized care your baby may need immediately after birth, and the long-term outlook.
