If your twins are diagnosed with Twin-to-Twin Transfusion Syndrome (TTTS), I want you to know that this is one of the fetal conditions with the highest success rates for treatment. In many pregnancies, TTTS can be successfully treated, especially when it is diagnosed early and managed without delay. That is why I emphasize regular monitoring and timely intervention, giving your babies the best possible chance for a healthy outcome.
The standard treatment for TTTS is

fetoscopic laser photocoagulation, a minimally invasive fetal procedure that seals the abnormal blood vessel connections shared by the twins within the placenta. During the procedure, I insert a small 3 mm trocar through your abdomen and uterus, allowing me to carefully visualize the placental blood vessels using a tiny camera called a fetoscope. Once the abnormal vascular connections are identified, I use a laser to seal them, separating the twins’ circulations and correcting the imbalance in blood flow.
I perform this procedure in the operating room using local anesthesia combined with maternal sedation, so you remain comfortable, awake, breathing on your own, and able to respond throughout the surgery. Because the procedure is minimally invasive, most mothers recover quickly and are able to go home the following day. The results are very encouraging, treatment successfully corrects the condition in most cases, and approximately 90% of pregnancies result in the survival of at least one twin, with many families welcoming both babies home.
