The most significant complication of surgical treatment is premature rupture of membranes (rupture of the amniotic sac) . It occurs in 10-15% of cases.

Other complications that may arise include:

  • Premature birth: In general, delivery usually occurs around 33 weeks. In approximately 5-8% of cases, extreme premature birth occurs (before 28 weeks).
  • Intra-amniotic infection: This is a very rare complication since the surgery is performed in an operating room and antibiotics are used.
